Next week (Tuesday 27th February) Bordon’s brightest and newest entrepreneurial movement will be launched with the opening of Signal. This much anticipated free coworking space forms the heart of our plans to provide Bordon’s entrepreneurs with all the business support they need to build successful businesses.
The regeneration of Whitehill and Bordon offers business owners and entrepreneurs in the area with some great opportunities. From units and office space to let, a Makers Market and a thriving town centre, to opportunities to recruit and employ skilled staff from the area, and grow their businesses in a sustainable way.
Part of this regeneration project is Signal, a refurbished former MOD site that offers free coworking space alongside state-of-the-art meeting room hire, and is also home to the Bordon Business Hub.
What is Signal?
Signal is a one-stop-shop for all your business needs! First and foremost it provides free coworking space for entrepreneurs who need a desk, super fast connectivity, and facilities to fuel their creativity.
The set up is simple. Give us a call in the morning to find out about availability, or turn up, and if there’s a desk free on the day it’s yours! All we ask is for your email address and social capital* so we can keep in touch with you about business events happening in the area. There is a small charge for refreshments and other services (printing, photocopying etc.)
As well as the free coworking space we also have permanent desk space available for hire, and meeting rooms that can be hired on an ad hoc basis. If you and your team need somewhere to work out of regularly, or a meeting room for seeing clients, running workshops or holding team meetings, get in touch for details.
Alongside all of these facilities, Signal is also the home of the Bordon Hub. This is a business hub for local businesses and entrepreneurs that hosts weekly events offering business education, support, inspiration and collaboration. Meeting every Tuesday, the event involves a talk or workshop from one of our expert VIPs or guest presenters, offering really practical help and advice for micro and small business owners.
* What is Social Capital?
Coworking is not just about getting your head down and doing some work, it’s also about meeting other business owners and entrepreneurs, collaborating and sharing social capital.
You may not think you have much social capital, so you’ll be surprised to learn that you probably do! Social capital is earned or spent by sharing your expertise, helping other people, and benefiting from their expertise too.
That doesn’t mean sharing your trade secrets or devaluing your services or products by giving them away for free. Instead it could mean sharing a useful hack you’ve learned to help someone manage their social media accounts more effectively. Or offering to have a look at their website and provide some advice for improving its user experience. Your social capital might not even involve your specific area of expertise; it might just be recommending an SaaS tool that you use and helping them get set up, or giving them a referral.
Essentially it’s about working together to help each other succeed, and specifically to help build a thriving business community in Bordon.
In exchange for a few hours free desk space, your tips and advice or practical support could go a long way. In my experience it’s a very sound investment with great returns. What you put in is often rewarded over and above your initial contribution with support and help from others in the community.
Register for Signal Launch Day
We have a really exciting programme on Tuesday 27th February to launch Signal. We start with coffee and a presentation at 9am to officially launch the workspace, you’ll also be able to have a tour of the space and see where it all happens!
Then at 10am we will run a free business growth workshop with marketing expert Vanessa Lanham Day. This provides a bit of a taster of the regular events the Bordon Hub will host every Tuesday.
Following Vanessa’s workshop from 11am to 12pm we will be on hand for any questions, tours around the workspace, and opportunities for attendees to meet other entrepreneurs and business owners. Bordon’s new entrepreneurial movement will be kicked off in style with some informal networking in our fantastic new space!
Then, if all that has left you a little bit hungry you have an opportunity to have lunch with everyone behind the scenes at Signal. Local food specialists Sprinkle of Saffron will be providing their renowned curry buffet – we recommend you don’t miss out on that!
I can’t wait to meet you all!
